One of the most beautiful pictures in Revelation is that of people from every nation, tribe, and tongue gathering at the Throne of God to worship Him.

It is the restoration of what was lost in the Garden, the fulfilling of the purpose of the Lamb, and the reason Jesus gave the command to go and make disciples of all nations (commonly called The Great Commission).

The Work Of The Blood Of The Lamb

And they sang a new song, saying,
“Worthy are you to take the scroll

and to open its seals,
for you were slain, and by your
blood you ransomed people for God

from every tribe and language and people and nation.”
~Revelation 5:9, ESV

Every person on earth was ransomed by His blood. They are the reason the Lamb was slain.

How incredibly priceless that makes them. How very, very precious they are!

That child abandoned in an orphanage at birth because of a deformity? Precious.

That mom who lost it yesterday, because her kids just wouldn’t stop bickering and breaking things? Precious.

That woman battered and washed up from being trafficked as a teen girl? Precious.

That person whose skin color is so different from your own, whose beliefs seem so foreign to yours? Precious.

That dad who took off and never met his child, because he wasn’t ready to be a father? Precious.

That person who cut you off on the way to the store last night and almost caused an accident? Precious.

The doctor who performs abortions and has stopped the beating hearts of thousands of babies in her career? Precious.

The African warlord who conscripts children into his army and gives them guns to murder people? Precious.

The woman looking back at you in the mirror each morning, bearing scars no one sees and hurts no one knows with fears that threaten to overwhelm? Precious.

The blood of the Lamb was shed for each and every one of them, and for so many more. The same blood that was shed for your precious baby and your husband was shed for men like Hitler and Mussolini.

It baffles the mind, defies logic, and seems utterly unfair, doesn’t it? But it’s because God’s love and God’s redemption aren’t earned. Your actions can never qualify you for them, which means they can never disqualify you from them.

Jesus brings grace. It is by faith we are saved, not works. We are no longer under the Law; He did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it.

The Cry Of The Nations

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” ~Revelation 7:9-10, ESV

What is the cry of those from every nation when they gather in heaven? It is that SALVATION BELONGS TO OUR GOD & THE LAMB!

That means they can give it freely; it is theirs. It doesn’t belong to any human, but it can be poured out over them.

And John reveals that this particular group of white-robed worshippers has come out of the tribulation and wears robes washed white by the blood of the Lamb (v. 14). In Revelation 6:11, another group was white robes as well. Those martyred for their faith, whose numbers were still growing.

They knew, these men and women with a life-consuming faith,  this truth. Salvation is His.

His to give, His to lavish on those who do not deserve it and cannot earn it, and more valuable than anything on earth. Worth dying for, even.

This is why you must respond to it. Why I must respond to it. Why the Church must rise up and stop cheapening grace.

The Call To You, Dear Christian

This is why you must act.

People from every nation, tribe, and tongue gather in heaven because during their time on earth they heard the Gospel and their hearts opened to it.

But how did they hear? How will those not yet counted hear?

You. Me. The Church.

You need to have God’s heart for the world, my friend. He is calling you.

Otherwise, how will that battered woman, that evil man, or those lost children come to know Him? They won’t.

The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Let’s make sure you are counted among them!

Perhaps to go, perhaps to stay and pray, perhaps to further the work of those who have gone with support. Ask Him. But don’t just sit there. Heaven is waiting. The Lamb has been slain. And the nations must hear.
